I just opened Yahoo after finishing playing some guitar and the top story is that Angelina Jolie said her 4-year-old daughter, "Wants to be a boy." Seriously how is that front page news?? Because there are enough people out there that drool over that type of information. The media feeds us what we hunger for. It distracts us from our daily lives so that we may momentarily forget about returning to our cubicles the next day. This crazy obsession with meaningless celebrity gossip is exactly why I wrote the song, "Until We Fall". I want to influence as many people as I can to stop paying attention to this kind of garbage and start focusing on bettering their own lives, pursuing their own dreams instead of reading about someone else's. Only through yourself will you find happiness.
For the Liberation!
I totally agree with you on this point. I have never seen the appeal of wanting to know the ins and outs of a 'celebrities' lives. We are bombarded with useless information about who is seeing who, who said what to whom, who bought what etc why? There are far more important things going on in this world of ours than the trivial lives of people who's only thoughts are 'how can I get in the press this week'? People are starving, dying from preventable, treatable diseases, children are homeless on streets where rape and drug abuse is rife. Millions of people live on less than a dollar a day while there is enough food and resources for everyone to be able to be healthy. The obscene amount of money that is wasted on celebrities and within the sports world is just one way that perpetuates the poverty of others along with governments short termism regarding the alleviation of poverty throughout the world. Getting votes in the next election is generally all they are concerned with and until that changes we will still live in a world where the haves and the have nots live poles apart.
Sorry to rant and I could go on but hey its not going to change anything. In the end we can only do what we can to make the world better for someone. Perhaps if all who have helped just one person who has not then things would change - I can but dream :)
